U2's Chicago #2 setlist, 04/06/17 (and tour rumours!)

Today, U2 performed their second of two shows in Chicago. The order of the encore was slightly different to the first night, and two songs were rotated.

Fans have been wondering what happened to A Sort of Homecoming for the last two weeks, and today it returned to the setlist. It was last performed on 20 May in LA and had missed the intervening four shows. Accordingly, this is its fifth performance on the current tour. It did, however, come at the expense of Bad, breaking that song's streak of consecutive shows. Had it been played tonight for the eighth show in a row, it would've been its longest run since the opening eight gigs of the Elevation Tour's first leg in 2001. But we have to reset the counter now. (In case you're wondering, if it makes nine consecutive shows in a row at any point, that will be its longest streak since it was played every night on ZooTV's first two legs.)

In the encore, Miss Sarajevo returned to the starting position after Beautiful Day took on that role yesterday. A second break was meant to come between One and Beautiful Day but the band stayed on stage. The encore followed the same order as that in Arlington, except that instead of closing with I Will Follow, new song Little Things returned after missing two shows. Bono announced that it is "the last song on the album", referring to Songs of Experience.

Because the two songs brought back into the setlist tonight were played at the expense of two others, rather than being pure additions, the overall setlist length remained 21 songs for the sixth show in a row. The last time U2 played this many shows in a row with fewer than 22 songs was on the final leg of Elevation in 2001, when all shows were 19–21 songs long.

Rumours are heating up, by the way, about a forthcoming announcement of extra North American dates in September followed by shows in South America in October. There are some slightly conflicting itineraries floating around for North America—though in all cases they are cities that missed out this time, such as Detroit, Kansas City, and San Diego—and the South American rumours point towards U2's first concert in Colombia as well as shows in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile. There are also rumours of a gig in Peru but there have apparently been difficulties lining up an appropriate venue on a suitable date. All rumoured shows are in stadiums. Stay tuned; one poster on Interference says the announcement might happen on Tuesday, so hopefully we will know soon if these rumours are true or bollocks.
