New tour leg, new songs?

The resumption of the 360° Tour is less than three weeks away, with the first concert in Salt Lake City on 3 June 2010. Speculation and rumours of setlist changes have been floating around; Edge has hinted at "new things", and Willie Williams has said one of these will be a new opener in place of Breathe.

One of the setlist changes may be the return of Even Better Than The Real Thing after a nine year absence. The Australian U2 Show, a (very professional and talented!) U2 tribute band based in Melbourne, Australia, have e-mailed their mailing list subscribers and posted on their website the news that footage of them will be shown on screen when U2 perform at Glastonbury on 25 June 2010. The Aussie U2 Show state specifically that "the footage will appear on screen with U2 during their performance of Even Better Than The Real Thing".

The last performance of EBTTRT was back on the Elevation Tour's first leg in Boston on 9 June 2001. After being played at every ZooTV and Popmart concert, it featured at just ten Elevation shows. It has not, however, vanished from the band's radar entirely for the intervening nine years. As the fourth paragraph of this article indicates, it was probably considered for inclusion in the Vertigo Tour setlist in early 2005. Before the start of the current tour, the band toyed with performing it in Perfecto Mix form while rehearsing in Barcelona on 20 June 2009. So it is certainly a realistic possibility.

Stay tuned! Like last year, we will have live coverage, reports, and statistics for every concert. When the tour reaches Europe, Matt's fantastic videos will make a return too.
