Bono and Edge perform with Elvis Costello

On the evening of the 15th of September, Bono and Edge made an appearance in Toronto at the filming of Spectacle, a TV show hosted by Elvis Costello. The show features Costello and his band performing with and interviewing musical guests. The date this episode will be broadcast is as yet unknown, but via atu2, we learn the setlist.

Before Bono and Edge performed, Elvis Costello and his band performed covers of Please, Dirty Day, and Mysterious Ways. Costello then interviewed Bono and Edge, and this was interspersed with performances. The set was:

  1. Stay (Faraway, So Close!) (Bono and Edge only)
  2. Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad (Bono and Costello's rhythm section)
  3. Alison (Bono, Edge, and Elvis Costello and his band)
  4. Stuck In A Moment (Bono, Edge, and Elvis Costello and his band)
  5. Pump It Up / Get On Your Boots (Bono, Edge, and Elvis Costello and his band)

This is only the second time Two Shots Of Happy has ever been performed. The first time was nearly fourteen years ago, when Bono and Edge played it for Frank Sinatra's birthday in late 1995. A recording of that performance appears as a b-side on the If God Will Send His Angels singles.

This is the first time members of U2 have participated in a full cover of Elvis Costello's Alison. Bono has, however, snippeted it on a few previous occasions.
