U2 rehearsals in Santiago, Thursday 24/03

Tomorrow, U2 kick off their third tour of South America in Santiago. Today, the band took the opportunity to rehearse at Estadio Nacional.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is that they did some fairly extensive soundchecking of One Tree Hill. Thus far, it has only been played at the two concerts in New Zealand. Otherwise, the songs rehearsed are unsurprising, though it is worth noting that Stingray Guitar, ditched for the two shows last month in South Africa, was dusted off for rehearsals.

An early soundcheck featured at least portions of City Of Blinding Lights, Moment Of Surrender, Mysterious Ways, and One Tree Hill. This was mostly if not completely instrumental.

The later soundcheck was much more extensive and featured nearly a full set. Interestingly, Edge sung a few lyrics of One Tree Hill. The band played the following, and please keep in mind that there were some extended gaps between some songs:

  1. Return Of The Stingray Guitar (No Bono)
  2. Beautiful Day (No Bono)
  3. I Will Follow (No Bono)
  4. Get On Your Boots (No Bono)
  5. Magnificent (No Bono)
  6. Mysterious Ways (No Bono)
  7. Elevation
  8. Until The End Of The World
  9. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
  10. One Tree Hill (Largely instrumental, few vocals by Edge)
  11. Miss Sarajevo (ending only)
  12. Intro of City Of Blinding Lights twice ("Questions" segment and Zooropa/Fez sample segue)
  13. City Of Blinding Lights (No Bono)
  14. Walk On (No Bono)
  15. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (No Bono)
  16. Moment of Surrender
  17. Get On Your Boots intro
  18. Beautiful Day

At this point, Bono cut off the rehearsal and no songs were played thereafter. Bring on tomorrow's show - and possibly the surprising return of One Tree Hill? The other matter up in the air, of course, is whether Mothers Of The Disappeared will show up in Chile or Argentina. Time will tell.
