Today U2 performed their first of two shows in Scotland's largest city, Glasgow. Quite extraordinarily, these shows come exactly 31 years after U2 performed two classic Unforgettable Fire Tour shows at Glasgow's Barrowlands Ballroom: 6 and 7 November 1984. If I may be partisan about my song preferences, these shows would be an ideal setting for U2 to play A Sort Of Homecoming - and to get some stage-time into it ahead of their homecoming shows in Ireland later this month!

Bono usually introduces Song For Someone by talking about when he was a teenager trying to impress the woman who is now his wife, Alison Stewart. Tonight he gave a particularly salacious intro. He told the crowd that "I slept with her last night - it was good!"

Early in the show, The Electric Co. returned after missing two shows. The E stage rotations featured Elevation, back after a single-show absence, and Sweetest Thing, restored to the set after missing five shows. The show closed with One, also back after a single-show absence. There was also a slight change to The Fly in the intermission, as Bono sang the verses live over the backing tape. The chorus remained pre-recorded.

Important note regarding The Fly intermission: There were suspicions that Bono sung The Fly live tonight. Subsequent recordings appear to bear this out. We have provisionally listed it in the setlist in a manner that counts towards total songs played. For a full explanation see our article about the next night's show.
