U2's Phoenix #2 setlist, 23/05

Tonight, U2 performed their second of two shows in Phoenix. It is not common for U2 to play Arizona more than once on a single leg: in 1987, they opened the Joshua Tree Tour will three shows in the state (two in Tempe, one in Tucson) and closed it with two more back in Tempe, but since then the only other tour leg to feature two Arizona shows is the first leg of the Vertigo Tour in 2005. If you missed the news from the first show, you can view the setlist and check out our videos.

During the show Bono made multiple allusions to Ireland's successful vote for marriage equality at a national referendum. During Pride, he made a speech announcing that "on this very day we have true equality in Ireland", described the yes vote as acknowledging "love is the highest law in the land", and changed one lyric to "they cannot take your gay pride". The intro of Beautiful Day began with a declaration that "yes it's a beautiful day alright!" and the song ended with a snippet of One's lyrics that "love is a temple, love the higher law". The outro music at the end of the concert was Same Love by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

There were a few changes to the set from last night. One returned after missing one show; Out Of Control, Angel Of Harlem, and When Love Comes To Town all returned after missing the past two shows; and Miracle Drug ended an absence of three shows to enjoy its second performance of the tour. After last night had 25 songs, the most of the tour so far, tonight had a total of 23, the equal fewest with the first night in San Jose. Early in the show, Larry accidentally started Vertigo a song early and played its drum intro while the rest of the band launched into Out Of Control, hence the snippet noted in the set below. At the end of Raised By Wolves, Bono is now tearing up books and throwing them to the crowd. This inspired a snippet of "out damned spots!" from Macbeth during the outro of Until The End Of The World.
