Before his set with The Edge began, Bono joined K'Naan on stage for one song, dueting with him on his brand new song, Bulletproof Pride. Our database entry for this appearance is separate to that for Bono and Edge's set and can be found here.

Bono and The Edge were the final act on stage, introduced by Bill and Chelsea Clinton. The set contained two massive surprises: The first was the debut live performance of A Man And A Woman, dedicated to Chelsea and her husband Marc Mezvinsky. It is almost exactly seven years since that song was released on How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. The second was a surprise performance of Staring At The Sun, not played since 24 October 2001. It is the first time any song from Pop has been performed in full live since Discotheque was played on 20 September 2005. Staring At The Sun was backed by a string section, as were One and Miss Sarajevo.

The crew soundchecked Zooropa, City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, Moment of Surrender, Even Better Than the Real Thing, and a portion of Get on Your Boots.

The setlist itself stuck to the usual template, but had a few bonuses for the occasion. At the end of I Still Haven't Found, Bono added a snippet of Springhill Mining Disaster, a song U2 used to play live with lyrics naturally based in Springhill, a town in Nova Scotia (a province U2 have never performed in) just 74 kilometres away from Moncton. Then at the end of the show, U2 kept going past Moment Of Surrender; it was followed by Out Of Control. This means that Moncton got a very rare setlist with both I Will Follow and Out Of Control; since Out Of Control's live resurrection in May 2001, the amount of times these two particular Boy songs have appeared at the same show can be counted on one hand.

However, Out Of Control was not the end of proceedings. After Bono sprayed the crowd with champagne, U2 went into 40. This is, amazingly enough, the song's tour debut, having last been performed in full on 20 February 2006 on the Vertigo Tour. This is the first time an original U2 song has ever made its tour debut at the last show of the tour, let alone as the last song of the tour. Larry was left alone as the last band member on stage at the end of 40, and with his final drum beats, the 360° Tour came to a close, two years and one month after it began in Barcelona on 30 June 2009.

The setlist was not significantly different to that performed in Minneapolis three days ago, but it did feature two notable changes. One of these was not tremendously surprising; in the middle of the main set, Stay returned after a single show absence. The other change came right at the end of the show after Moment Of Surrender and was much more surprising. U2 seem to have embraced their newfound penchant for playing a song after MOS, tonight performing fan favourite Bad to close the show. This is just the third time it has been performed in 2011, following appearances on 3 April in La Plata and 24 June at the Glastonbury Festival. This is also just the second time Bad has been performed in North America on the entire 360° Tour, bookending the band's jaunts through the US; its other performance was at the tour's first US show back on 12 September 2009.

There was another little morsel for those fans paying close attention; Bono snippeted the title lyric of Two Hearts Beat As One in Vertigo. It has not appeared live in any form, not even snippet, since 27 December 1989. This was in fact its first appearance as a snippet; all 132 previous appearances were full performances.

After I Still Haven't Found, the band segued into a full performance of Stand By Me, the fourth time this tour that they have done so. It was performed with hip hop musician K'naan and dedicated to his native Somalia. The next song was Stuck In A Moment, dedicated to the recently deceased Amy Winehouse. Stuck last appeared in a 360° Tour set two weeks ago, although it was actually played live more recently, five days ago on Letterman's show.

The show was a bit of a wet one; consequently, Bono dug out a number of his rain-related snippets. He continues to be especially fond of Singing In The Rain. The full setlist was:

Several guests were in the house, including Bruce Springsteen and Salman Rushdie. The set featured some alterations from the previous few nights. Magnificent returned after an absence of one show, again being performed in its original iteration. In an insignificant note, a song was snippeted in Stay (Faraway, So Close!) for just the fourth and fifth time ever. The Edge introduced the song in place of Bono but then mistakenly played a few bars of Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of before correcting his error, and a line of In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning, popularized by Frank Sinatra in 1955, was included in the final verse. The biggest surprise was reserved for the end of the night. Following Moment of Surrender, U2 launched into Out of Control for just the fifth time on the tour. Two other songs, Bad and 40, were on the printed setlist after Out of Control but were not performed. The former has not been played since 3 April 2011, while the latter has yet to be performed this tour.

After switching up the setlist a little for Philadelphia three nights previously, they reverted to the new "usual" set, as last performed in 11 July 2011. This means that The Fly returned to the set after a single show absence, Magnificent disappeared again after its cameo in Philadelphia, and the order of the first half of the main set was somewhat shuffled.

The night after this gig, Bono and Edge appeared on David Letterman's show and performed an acoustic version of Stuck In A Moment. Our database listing for that appearance can be found here. This is U2's first appearance on Letterman since their five show run on the NLOTH Promo Tour.

This boosted the number of songs from No Line On The Horizon back up to four, after nine shows in a row with just three songs from the band's last album. Magnificent's resurrection meant that the 360° Tour's newest star, The Fly, took a leave of absence. To cater for this substitution, the order of the early passage of the main set was modified, with I Will Follow notably appearing second, the spot it held before The Fly's debut.

The setlist featured a few changes from the first Montreal show. Out Of Control returned to the setlist, appearing for just the fourth time this tour (and fifth time for 2011). All I Want Is You returned to the main set for the first time since the 17 June 2011 show in Anaheim; it had only been played once in the interim, as a spontaneous end to Nashville's encore. AIWIY was followed by Stuck In A Moment, making just its third appearance on this North American leg; its last performance was on 18 June 2011.

The main set changes were rounded out with New Year's Day, which rotated into the spot normally occupied by Pride; this is the first time since 15 May 2011. This means that today's show is just the second show this leg at which Pride was not performed; the other show was 14 May 2011, Mexico City. After the main set, there was another change to come in the encores, when Ultra Violet was played for the first time since 22 June 2011. It is also worth noting that the intro to Streets was a snippet of Hallelujah; Bono has only sung this a handful of times before, all in June 1997. With Or Without You was sung complete tonight with the extra Shine Like Stars verse, for just the sixth time on the 360° Tour.

The setlist contained no real surprises. I Will Follow returned to the set after missing the previous concert in Chicago, and Moment of Surrender closed the show for the first time since Miami on 29 June. Before I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Bono introduced the band as members of the Royal Family, an apt comparison as William and Kate had wrapped up their tour of Canada recently. Larry was described as Prince William, Adam as Kate, Edge as the Prince of Wales, and Bono as one of the Queen's Corgis. He also included several shout-outs in the course of the show to Guy Laliberté, the CEO of Cirque du Soleil, who had appeared in a Space Station broadcast during the first North American leg in 2009.

During Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me, a few drops of rain began to fall; it looked as though the weather would hold off, but in the final verse of Moment of Surrender it began to pour down, leading Bono and Edge to duet on a snippet of Rain to close out the show.

It all seems so long ago now. The soundcheck today was largely performed by the crew; it included Where The Streets Have No Name, One, Zooropa, City Of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, Moment Of Surrender, Even Better Than The Real Thing, and Beautiful Day. U2 did show up for some of this soundcheck, including Even Better Than The Real Thing.

The setlist contained two very special surprises. The first came early in the show, when Out Of Control unexpectedly cropped up after the opening run of Achtung Baby songs. This is just the third time it has been played on the 360° Tour, and the fourth time this year when you add Glastonbury to the count. The second surprise was even more special and unexpected.

Before Moment Of Surrender, Bono spoke about how it was 25 years since the death of Greg Carroll, who was killed by a drunk driver on 3 July 1986 and in whose memory One Tree Hill was written. Initially, it seemed that they might only snippet it in Moment Of Surrender - then Bono offered the crowd a deal; "if we screw up pretty badly, you don't put it on the Internet". And after a few initial stutters, they launched into a full performance of One Tree Hill, complete with the solo. A far cry from screwing up pretty badly! This was just One Tree Hill's fourth performance on the 360° Tour, following the first and second Auckland gigs and Santiago. This is also the first time One Tree Hill has been played in full in North America since 20 December 1987.

It is also worth noting that the snippet of Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World at the end of Mysterious Ways is that song's first live appearance in any form since 10 December 1993 (although it was rehearsed last year in Turin). The full setlist was:

Thirty years later, they have decidedly moved up in the world to the vast spaces of Vanderbilt Stadium. It is not just Nashville that has been frequently omitted from U2's tour schedule; this was the first time they have played anywhere in the state of Tennessee for over fourteen years. The last Tennessee gig was in Memphis on 14 May 1997.

The setlist was very similar to that played three days ago in Miami. There were three notable changes, two of which were rather big surprises. Two changes occured in the middle of the main set. Stay rotated back into the eighth spot in lieu of unreleased song North Star. It had been preceded by the first of the night's two big surprises: at the end of I Still Haven't Found, Bono launched into a lengthy snippet of The Wanderer, singing the song's first two verses. Although The Wanderer has been performed once before in November 2005 for TV, this is the first time it has appeared in any form at an actual U2 concert.

The second big surprise came at the very end of the concert. After Moment Of Surrender (the usual closer, and listed on the printed set as the final song), Bono pulled on stage a member of the audience to play guitar. He performed with the band a slightly abbreviated version of All I Want Is You, bringing it back into the setlist after a fortnight's absence. Moment Of Surrender, when performed, is normally the final song in the set; this is just the third time it has been followed by another song and the first time this has happened on the 360° Tour - the other two examples were on Saturday Night Live in 2009 and last month at Glastonbury. This is also just the third 360° Tour concert to be closed by a song other than Moment Of Surrender; the two previous examples were both closed by With Or Without You, when MOS had to be cut due to the band running up against curfew restrictions in Brisbane and Winnipeg.
