U2 on TFI Friday, 16/10

Today U2 appeared on Britain's Channel 4 program TFI Friday, hosted by Chris Evans. This is their first appearance on the show since 17 March 2000, when Bono and The Edge performed The Ground Beneath Her Feet acoustically. This time the whole band is there, and are expected to be interviewed alongside their performance. Other musical guests there include Take That and Slaves. An hour before broadcast U2 were heard soundchecking Vertigo, Raised By Wolves, and Song For Someone.

U2 opened the show with Raised By Wolves. Their interview with Chris Evans was brief. The Edge noted that they were pleased with the reviews the Innocence and Experience Tour has been getting, Bono said they have finally learned how to be in the band that they wanted to be in when they started, with Adam adding that they've finally learned how to play their own songs. Their interview was followed with a "Cutest Thing on TFI Friday contest" where contestant #2 was an eight-month old baby who, according to Evans, "looks a bit like Bono". The baby, dressed in black and wearing sunglasses, lost the contest to a wheelbarrow full of Border Collie puppies. U2 then closed out the television broadcast with a performance of Vertigo, which featured a return of the visuals from the Vertigo Tour, and followed it with two songs exclusively for those in attendance: Song For Someone and Out Of Control. Both are scheduled to be shown on the lengthier rebroadcast tomorrow night.

The set was as follows:

  1. Raised By Wolves
  2. Interview
  3. Vertigo / God Save The Queen (Sex Pistols) (snippet)
  4. Song For Someone
  5. Out of Control
