2010 European tourdates

Today, U2 have officially confirmed the 360° Tour will continue into 2010 and announced European tourdates. Initially posted without fanfare on U2.com's tour page, they were announced about half an hour later in this article (which also mentions U2.com's new subscription offer, a remix album). 12 cities are included in the itinerary, which begins on 10 August 2010 in Frankfurt and ends on 2 October 2010 in Coimbra, Portugal. The tour page notes that "additional dates and cities to be confirmed"; in particular note the large gaps in September. Some dates already have on-sale dates listed; the rest are to be advised.

The itinerary is:

Date: Location (Pre-sale date if given / Public sale date if given)
10 August 2010: Commerzbank Arena, Frankfurt, Germany
12 August 2010: AWD Arena, Hannover, Germany
15 August 2010: CASA Arena Horsens, Horsens, Denmark (29 September / 3 October)
20 August 2010: Olympic Stadium, Helsinki, Finland (29 September / 5 October)
25 August 2010: Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, Russia
30 August 2010: Ernst Happel Stadium, Vienna, Austria (29 September / 3 October)
3 September 2010: Olympic Stadium, Athens, Greece
6 September 2010: Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul, Turkey
15 September 2010: Olympic Stadium, Munich, Germany
18 September 2010: Stade de France, Paris, France
29 September 2010: Estadio Olímpico de Sevilla, Seville, Spain
2 October 2010: Estádio Cidade de Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal

The itinerary so far includes numerous cities - and in some cases, countries - that U2 have either never visited or have not visited in a long time. The only venue being re-visited from the first leg of 360° is Stade de France in Paris.

The concerts in Moscow and Istanbul will be U2's first visits to Russia and Turkey respectively. The concert in Athens is U2's first visit to the city and only the second time U2 have visited Greece; first was Thessaloniki back on 26 September 1997. Finland gets a U2 concert for only the third time ever - last was 9 August 1997. Never before has a Spanish U2 concert been held in Seville.

The gig in Horsens will be only the second time U2 have played a Danish venue outside Copenhagen; first was Roskilde way back on 2 July 1982. Similarly, the gig in Coimbra is only the second time U2 have played a Portuguese venue outside Lisbon; first was Vilar de Mouros on 3 August 1982. Hannover receives a U2 show for only the second time ever; first was on 20 August 1997.

Although this is the third leg of the tour to be announced, we have strong reason to believe it will in fact be the fourth, with the actual third leg in North America earlier in 2010. Until that leg is confirmed, our 360° Tour page will refer to this leg as the "4th(?)" leg.

Update: Hoping for a gig in Belgium? No Belgian city is yet in the itinerary posted on U2.com, but in the blurb above it listing all the countries visited, Brussels is namedropped.
