Today, U2 performed a Bay Area show in Santa Clara, the first of three dates in California. The band played Bad again, after it made its tour debut at the previous show in Seattle. This time around the band concluded the show with new song The Little Things That Give You Away, like they did in Vancouver. Bono introduced it by saying "we've got a new album; this is a song that's on it".

It's worth noting that this tour features A Sort of Homecoming's earliest appearance in any setlist. All three nights it has been the third song. Previously, the earliest it was ever played was at its final appearance on the original Joshua Tree Tour, when it came fifth on 27 June 1987.

We also believe that this tour's three performances of New Year's Day are the first time Bono has ever sung the "golden age" verse from the original studio version. He has sometimes sung the "maybe the time is right" lines, but never the "golden age" ones. We, and some of our followers, have gone through literally hundreds of New Year's Day recordings in the hope of finding an elusive performance with "golden age" that some fans believe must be out there. I, Axver, was convinced it would show up in a couple of unusual early performances. We have not found it. If you have any evidence to the contrary, please contact us (or tweet at us). As a sidenote, Bono did sing the first verse from the US Mix, also known as the Kevorkian Mix, of New Year's Day at its first three live performances in December 1982.
