U2's Buffalo setlist, 05/09/17

Today U2 performed in Buffalo. It is their first show in Buffalo—or anywhere in New York state outside of New York City—since 9 December 2005, and the first time they have ever played a stadium venue in the city. The last time U2 performed a stadium concert in New York outside of New York City was way back on 18 August 1992 in Saratoga Springs.

Speaking of New York City, U2 will be there on Thursday. They are to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and the rumours that they would play two songs have been confirmed. Our database listing for this forthcoming appearance is here.

At the start of Bad, Bono reflected on how U2's first show in Buffalo on 8 December 1980 took place the same night John Lennon was shot. He added a snippet of Give Peace a Chance to Bad; the very first known snippet of that particular Lennon song happened in response to his death, during Electric Co. on 13 December 1980. It might also have been sung at the three shows previous to that one, but the setlists for those nights are not known. Snippets of a few Beatles songs also showed up during tonight's concert.

After In God's Country, Bono remarked that "we Irish were the Dreamers of our day. Economic refugees, that's what we were... and I think we did OK by this country." He then announced Trip Through Your Wires "for the Dreamers". In the encore he spoke about his disappointment at seeing "bitter divisions" within American society at the moment, but that he was heartened and impressed by how Texans reached out to help their neighbours during Hurricane Harvey.

The setlist contained the same 21 songs as in Detroit, in the same order. This means Miss Sarajevo is still out, and Mysterious Ways still in. There was, however, one little surprise right at the end: instead of singing the Hear Us Coming verse to finish One, Bono sang multiple lines of Drowning Man. That particular song has never been performed live in full, and the last time it was snippeted was on 21 July 2009, during a month when U2 were soundchecking a full version that never quite made its way into the 360 Tour setlist.

The full setlist was:
