U2 to play Glastonbury and Baltimore in 2011?

U2.com have published an article today that seems to be a not-so-subtle hint U2 will perform at Glastonbury next year. In the original text of this article, they also managed to accidentally announce a concert in Baltimore.

Glastonbury: After U2 were unable to perform as scheduled at Glastonbury this year, festival organiser Michael Eavis has made no secret of the fact he would like U2 to play in 2011. Tickets for the festival go on sale this weekend. Although U2.com's article announces nothing, it seems to be a heads-up for fans ahead of the sale that U2 may be headlining the Friday night, 24 June 2011. Paul McGuinness is quoted as telling fans to "watch this space!" Nothing is confirmed, though, so if you are going to buy Glastonbury tickets, be aware that U2 may not ultimately be in the line-up.

Baltimore: The current text of the article says there is a gap in the band's schedule before the East Lansing concert on 26 June 2011 which would make a Friday night Glastonbury appearance possible. Indeed there is; U2's previous show is in Anaheim on 18 June. Or is it? The original text on U2.com stated, quite explicitly, that a Friday night Glastonbury appearance "could fit between 22nd June Baltimore and 26th East Lansing".

Hang on, 22 June in Baltimore? This statement has now been removed from U2.com, but it seems they have accidentally made public a yet-to-be-announced extra North American tour date. Baltimore radio stations have been reporting rumours that U2 will play M&T Bank Stadium on that date with Florence And The Machine as support act; we won't add the show to our database until it is properly confirmed, but given this slip-up by U2.com, that seems to be a mere formality. For now, add this to the rumour that U2 will end their 2011 North American leg at Heinz Field, Pittsburgh on 26 July. Previous rumours have suggested more dates are to be added to the North American leg - hopefully there will be an announcement soon.
