U2's stage under construction in Melbourne

U2's last Australian show was on 19 November 2006 in the cultural and live music capital of the country, Melbourne. In a few days, they will return there to commence their run of eight Australian shows. The stage is already under construction at Etihad Stadium, and today I popped down to see what was happening.

It is not exactly easy to take a peek at proceedings inside, but I found a couple of vantage points, and there was some activity outside the stadium too. Check out the action below.

Through gate 9, you can get a small glimpse of a crane at work assembling the Claw:

At the LaTrobe Street end of the stadium (where the GA queue will be), an "EziStage" truck was entering near gate 7:

Meanwhile, this "Australian Touring Services" truck was chillin' near gate 9:

As for inside the venue, gate 1 delivered the goods:

Two shots looking through the gate at the stage under construction:

Meanwhile, to the side of the stadium, there was some staging - and note the smiley face:

Some of the staging was being moved around. One of my other hobbies is railways, and this photo is a bit of a treat for any other U2/railfans who might be out there, with Sprinter railcars (left) and VLocity diesel multiple units (right) clearly visible in the background:

And to close, three more shots of the staging being moved around. Yes, I was also amused by the gigantic cans of beans at the left:
