U2's stage taking shape in Melbourne

Tomorrow, U2 play the first of their eight Australian dates in Melbourne, and this evening, work was continuing apace on erecting the stage at Etihad Stadium. The screen is now in place, but a crane was still hanging around and the bridges had not yet been installed. I got the camera out again; check out eleven of my shots below.

This is the view from near gate 7, showing the screen lit up and the bridges just chillin' on the field:

Security have now put barriers for the GA queue in place, and some very keen fans were already there. Around 6pm, there were about fifteen; by 10pm, the numbers had swelled to around 50. Looking from LaTrobe Street to the queuing area:

A closer view of the queuing area:

Looking through gate 5 was this, uh, appetising sign. Yeah, I was hungry until I looked at this:

Far more appealling was the view of the stage:

To the right was the crane:

The screen up close:

Plenty of staging was still outside the venue, in piles and in trucks:

Back in the stadium, the soundboard is coming together:

And to close, one of the unintentional celebrities of my photo posts, the ridiculous, giant cans of beans outside the venue!:
