U2 Minus 1 in New York

Today U2 performed for the first time since Bono's bicycle accident in mid-November. The concert was organised by Project Red for World AIDS Day and held in Times Square, New York. Bono, however, was banned from performing by his doctor, so "U2 Minus 1" were fronted by Chris Martin of Coldplay and Bruce Springsteen.

The concert began with Chris Martin fronting U2 for two songs: "Beautiful Day" and "With or Without You". Martin wore a shirt saying "SUBSTITU2". Carrie Underwood then performed a set and The Edge joined her for one song, "Change". The third performer of the night was Kanye West, introduced by Larry and Adam. Larry was particularly enthusiastic.

U2 closed proceedings with a second set, this time with Bruce Springsteen on vocals. They began with "Where the Streets Have No Name" and followed it with "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". U2 have performed with Springsteen on many previous occasions; the first was back on 25 September 1987. Perhaps their most famous live performance together was at the Rock Hall of Fame's 25th anniversary concert on 30 October 2009.
