7. With or Without You #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
6. I Still Haven’t Found. Crowd singing along loudly. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
@k_now_waite A shame. Need to update some of it.
A very brief “there is no end to love” in Streets. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
@sb_wreeldeal Hahaha, touche. I’ll pay that.
@sb_wreeldeal Without intending offence, I find his enthusiasm for America both baffling and retrograde.
5. It’s time for the purpose of this tour: The Joshua Tree. Streets, of course, is first. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
@Cloverground I honestly don’t think that’s a snippet. We’re not counting it.
@sb_wreeldeal Much shorter leg though. Oh god, another month of Bono blabbing about how much he loves the States.
Bono’s speech in Pride “we’ll find common ground by reaching for higher ground” is unchanged. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
@sb_wreeldeal I got well tired of it before the first leg was even halfway through. Heroes was great.
4. Pride #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
@GnoccoFritto I’d be sorely tempted by Boy or October to get me some b-sides and other rarities.
The snippet of Simon & Garfunkel’s America is back in Bad. The European snippetry was better. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
And on the War Tour, the only shows not closed by 40 were on the December 1982 “pre-tour” leg.
The only tour to ever have just one closer is UF. Every show ended w/ 40, unless you count Live Aid ending w/ Bad as part of the tour.
Bono calls Detroit “city of invention, city of reinvention”. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
Bono: “thank you for taking the trouble to come out and see us on your holiday weekend.” #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
3. Bad is still in the mix #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
New Year’s Day still has the “golden age” verse, which has only ever been sung live on this tour, never before. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
And Elevation opened every Elevation Tour show but one. First gig of that third leg began with Beautiful Day: u2gigs.com/show1180.html
I should qualify ZooTV by noting that the public Hershey rehearsal began with Sunday Bloody Sunday. u2gigs.com/show609.html
Tours with just one opening song: ZooTV (Zoo Station), Pop (Mofo), IE (The Miracle), and so far #U2TheJoshuaTree2017 with SBS.
My stream just buffered a little but it sounded like Bono thanked support act Beck over the NYD intro. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
2. New Year’s Day #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
Bono leads the crowd in the usual “no more!” chant in SBS. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
1. The third leg begins with the only opener this tour has known, Sunday Bloody Sunday #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
Finally! Here we go, intro music - it’s still The Whole of the Moon by The Waterboys. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
I hope you’re enjoying twiddling your thumbs waiting for U2. Hope Best Thing debuts tonight, but my guess is it will a couple of gigs later.
U2 are not on yet but they should be any moment now. #U2TheJoshuaTree2017
Hi folks, Ax here for night one of the third leg of #U2TheJoshuaTree2017. The band should be on stage in Detroit in 20-30 minutes.
Yep, I (Ax) will be pretending to do work while actually covering the gig.
@joe_ahorro Cheers. So Edge only for The Best Thing, full band for the longer soundcheck of old songs later?
@joe_ahorro To clarify, was this all just Edge like The Best Thing earlier, or did the rest of the band turn up?
First night of a new leg tomorrow and I won’t be there. Away for the long weekend in Canada. Hope Ax or Matt are around! Matkin.
Now it’s time for me (Ax) to sleep; it’s closing in on 3am Aussie time. Thanks for the company & nice to have a song exceed my expectations.
@tombhoy73 First song at any rate. And if it goes up on streaming those streams will be counted for charts.
@BirdieNumNums_1 Agree entirely. I was middling after the teaser; this beat my expectations.
@sb_wreeldeal It’s telling when you track the 360 sets and watch that opening blast of 4 new songs get eroded.
@sb_wreeldeal That was the cruelest part, that another top five song for me is what broke my heart.
@sb_wreeldeal And I know it’s dumb luck and all that shit but fuck, songs that are all-time evoke emotions that don’t follow simple logic.
@sb_wreeldeal I’d just got back to Australia. Felt completely flat; passed it off as jetlag.
@vindersandhu89 Definitely getting Magnificent-meets-Zoo Station vibes from the intro too!
@_Dream_Out_Loud Yeah I definitely think it worked better as a gig opener than it did as a lead single.
@sereeasily Better than I expected. I’m actually pleasantly surprised.
@sb_wreeldeal DO NOT START ME ABOUT ASOH
There’s a reason I was quiet for the rest of the Europe leg.
@sb_wreeldeal EBW might’ve been a bit too adult-contemporary to be lead single but still not as clumsy as Miracle.
@sb_wreeldeal Kinda guilty? For listening to the leak…? Oh man, no guilt from me. What that says about teenage Ax’s ethics…
@_Dream_Out_Loud Ehh, putting aside liking Miracle or not, I don’t think it was the best choice for lead single.
@prderocher We’ve got Best Thing to drop in a week and disagree about to get the earth back on its proper orbit. ;)
Ax’s 1st-listen hot take: U2 haven’t had a lead song from an album this good since Vertigo. Boots & Miracle were mis-steps; Blackout is not.
@Sanity_M Those remain the best U2 concerts I’ve seen. So much fun, and Boston was a great city to visit.
@Sanity_M That was 2005. I joined the site in Feb or March I think, just in time for the tour, and saw the band in May.
@duuuaaaane It’s so funny to think back to it now. Single songs?! Seems mad. And how long they took on my shitty dialup!
A few months later I joined Matthias in working on this site, saw U2 in Boston a couple more months later, then fast forward, here we are.
Luckily the power and Internet came back within a couple of minutes. I stayed up for hours listening to those songs. Simpler times, really.
Halfway through there was a huge thundercrack & my Internet died. I shouted “FUCK!” so loud I don’t know how I didn’t wake up whole house.
Turned out it was a friend telling me each song was going up online. This was summer in Queensland so a huge storm broke at the same time.
Who remembers HTDAAB leaking? I (Ax) was 17, I was just going to bed when my computer dinged & I decided to check who was messaging me.
@Naomi_U2Sydney If they bloody tour Europe and North America again before coming down here, I will…
@_Dream_Out_Loud In any case I’m aware that 1,000 streams = 1 sale.
@Naomi_U2Sydney Wouldn’t know since it never fucking came here!
@SilRigote That was so long ago, I (Ax) was 13, had no Internet, and only owned two U2 CDs!
@teddyD66 We’ll post a direct link closer to the time too. :) Just over one and a half hours away now.
@_Dream_Out_Loud …even if U2 reckon The Best Thing is the *true* lead.
@teddyD66 They will be broadcasting it live on the official U2 Facebook page.
@bonojour Yøu trusted me, Ax, in the first place?
No matter what the song sounds like in 2 hours’ time, the promo for SOE is already the best U2 have done for a new album in a whole decade.
Hey, Ax here. Looks like I’m sticking it out until 2am Aussie time for the new single. Make my sleep deprivation worth it, U2!
Architects singer halts gig after woman is groped bbc.in/2xdEWv5 Good on you lads, no place for that anywhere
I know I hurt you and I made you cry. Did everything but murder you and I. But love left a window in the skies, and to love I rhapsodize.
About 1 hour left to vote for the battle of the Bands final U2 vs. Oasis. twitter.com/MichaelRees84/…
I (Ax) had been told the band were unsure whether The Best Thing or Blackout would be the lead single. Looks like B… twitter.com/i/web/status/8…

Happy Birthday The Edge! youtu.be/5-EW58RlrbQ
@BasBoudewijn I’m (Matt) pretty sure we see a tour next year most likely with the I+E stage.
